Southwest Airlines reported Wednesday higher passenger traffic last month compared with the earlier-year period.

Southwest Airlines' traffic rose 6.4 percent in August compared with last year, and the company said Wednesday that a key measure of revenue may have risen as much as 16 percent.

(LUV) reported Wednesday a 2.1 percentage points increase in load factor for the month of August, with a 6.4% rise in traffic and a 3.7% increase in capacity from last year. The company also noted that passenger revenue per available seat mile for August is estimated to have increased in the 15% to 16% range from a year ago.
